STDEV.S DAX Function (Statistical)

Estimates standard deviation based on a sample. Ignores logical values and text in the sample.


STDEV.S ( <ColumnName> )
Parameter Attributes Description

A column that contains numbers corresponding to a sample of a population.

Return values

Scalar A single decimal value.

The standard deviation of a sample population.


STDEV.S assumes that the column refers to a sample of the population.

To compute the standard deviation with the entire population, use STDEV.P.

The STDEV.S function internally executes STDEVX.S, without any performance difference.
The following STDEV.S call:

--  Computes the standard deviation over a table of values
--  STDEV.P : standard deviation over the entire population
--  STDEV.S : standard deviation over a sample of the entire population
--  STDEVX is an iterator, STDEV is the simplified version in case
--  you are using a single column.
